Pharmacokinetic Modelling

To add a model, click the + button. You can choose a model using microrate constants, volume & clearance, or Schnider or Eleveld.

The Name field is the name which is shown on the Model Name list.

The Short Name is shown on the digital chart if you choose to display digital value.

To change the constants, click Edit.

You can choose how many compartments you want to use in your model.

Entering values will change the size of the compartments. If the graph shape looks strange, you have probably entered an inappropriate value for one or more constants.

If you wish to plot Effect Site concentration, you must enter a value for ke0.

The scale and offset can be used to adjust the size of curves so multiple drugs can be fitted onto a single graph.

You can add pharmacokinetic models in Drug & Fluid Preferences ->PK

These are useful as a teaching tool, but you MUST NOT use them for drug dosing. There is no guarantee that you have entered the constants correctly or that the program has implemented the model correctly. Small changes in the ke0 make large changes to the effect site concentration.

EVEN if everything is working correctly, these models are POOR at predicting actual plasma concentrations or drug effect. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
